If you're starting from zero
Building movement into a life that doesn't have it yet — where to start, how to start without hurting, how to make it stick. Low, slow, and consistent beats intense and short-lived.
Read moremovelixir is a plain-language resource on what modern research says about the relationship between movement and health — across the whole human spectrum, from the person taking their first walk to the athlete chasing an edge, to the person rebuilding after surgery, injury, or illness. Nutrition is the elixir that supports it.
Health, as modern research increasingly frames it, is not a thing you hold still and preserve. It is something that depends on movement — the full range and capacity of the body to move, to load, to recover, to adapt. When movement is removed, health is restricted. When it is restored, health can return.

Read moreNutrition, recovery, and the details that separate good from better — fuel timing, tissue preparation, the kinds of recovery that actually move performance. The work that compounds.
Read morePost-surgery, post-injury, post-illness, age, or any long period without movement — the slow, careful work of returning. Not rushing. Not pretending. Restoring what was lost, where it can be restored.
Read moreMovement asks a lot of the body. Fuel, repair, recovery, adaptation — these are nutritional processes, and the quality of that nutrition sets the ceiling on what movement can do and how well it can return you.
Movement requires energy. The body's capacity to move — to walk, to lift, to run, to recover — is built in part on what it is fed. We look at what the research says about fueling for movement without the crash or the jitters.
Tissue adapts to the work it is given and the materials it is given. Recovery from injury, surgery, illness, and age is in part a recovery of capacity — and nutrition is one of the inputs into that recovery.
movelixir does not sell certainty. Where the research is strong, we say so. Where it is suggestive, we say so. Where it is thin or conflicting, we say so. The goal is a readable, honest record of what is known — and what isn't — about movement and health.
Most of the claims you'll read here are framed as "research suggests," "may support," or "is associated with." Where a claim is well-established, we say it plainly. Where it isn't, we don't pretend it is.
We don't give medical advice. We don't diagnose. We don't tell you what to do with your specific body if your situation is clinical. When a situation calls for it, we point you to the clinician.
If the thesis — that movement is the foundation, and nutrition is the elixir that supports it — made sense, start with the thesis page. From there, the site branches to the audience you actually are.
